Edinburgh Blues – Easter Egg Run and Eclipse Open Day 2007.

Let’s start with a few apologies for last year’s ‘non’ event. The excuses were varied with some more justifiable than others, but ultimately it’s hands up time and we take full responsibility. What more could we do other than put it behind us and ensure this years event makes up for it?………..well fast forward twelve months and this is how it went.Sunday 1st April 2007 was the chosen day to gather in Tranent for the Eclipse Scooters Open day, followed by an Easter Egg run to the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh. The weather could have been a worry as only two weeks earlier we’d driven back through Siberian conditions from Morecambe, but thankfully someone upstairs decided Spring was here at last and blessed us with a gorgeous day for the event. The earlier arrivals were soon catered for with Gordon from Eclipse providing bargain spares and accessories while Squire and Mary came up trumps with the homemade rolls and soup painstakingly brewed the night before, but number one order was for coffee to feed the many hangovers assembled outside!

At around 2pm, the assembly for the ride-out got organised and soon after around eighty-two scooters left the premises in a cloud of two-stroke and a melody of blown silencers. Bliss! The outriders deserve individual recognition – Sumo, Jimbo, Pete and Mark, as a sterling job was done containing the cage drivers at the various roundabouts and junctions, although obviously we couldn’t do that at traffic lights eh! (aye, right!), allowing the procession to trundle on as one into Central Edinburgh. Tell you what, it looked well impressive from my perch at the very back. Things proceeded to the Sick Kids with a brief delay at the Royal Mile roadworks, giving the tourists a chance to get out the camera phones, then being halted at TollCross to allow paramedics to treat an injured biker in what looked a pretty serious spill. Gave us all a wee shiver I’m sure – hope all’s ok. The hospital staff were pretty astonished at the turnout arriving right outside the main entrance (as was I, all 82 scoots and no breakdowns!!) and were visibly moved at the charitable gesture they received. Another set of posed photographs and various rounds of applause rounded off the day for most.

The Blues would especially like to thank Pete for all the organisation, Gordon and staff at Eclipse, The Sick Kids Hospital Administration, and all of the Scooter clubs that made the effort to make this day a fantastic success. Spotted in the crowds (apologies if I’ve missed anyone) were the Gorehounds, Lone Sharks, Edinburgh SC, Dalkeith and District, Coyotes, Falkirk SC, Bed & Breakfast Men SC, East Lothian SC, MAD SC, My World SC, of course the Blues branches and many more solo riders from all over including a couple of guys (Tommy and Willie) coming up from Berwick. All of your support was brilliant. Thanks again.
