Morecambe 2006

Well here we go again. First ‘proper’ rally of the year. The last few weeks have been spent looking out the window at the horrendous weather we’ve been having and wondering and hoping ‘will this pick-up for Morecambe’?  Sure enough the temperature breaks a few days before the weekend and although not exactly tropical, Friday morning started off not too shabby. The wind remained constant though and the rally journey started with a jaunt across the ‘bridge’ from Fife to Lothian, leaning at the customary 45 degree angle to get to other side!  Meeting at Lothianburn, we were the last to arrive with the other scoots and back-up van already waiting for the off.  “Who let the blues out!!!” Not too bad a turnout considering the events of last year so hopefully this will be a turning point for the club again. Six scoots and the van then set off down the twisties to meet the rest of the Scottish scooterists at Abington for a mass ride-out. 72 scoots I believe. (Click Here For Video of Ride Out) Well it would have been 78 if they didn’t leave while we were still filling up! Mind you, we were a wee bit late. We needn’t have worried as most of the club caught and passed the sporadic groups of breakie-downers, plodders-on, and fillie-uppers before too long.

Drinking started approx 30 secs after arrival and culminated in a really good night at the main do in the Carleton. Well it must have been good ‘cause how else would it’ve cost me £120????? Memory banks a bit in short supply but I canny have pissed off too many folk because Elvis always steals the limelight there!! Cheers mate – deflecting the flak as always. What a guy! Saturday started sore. Especially seeing as I managed to mistake the middle of the floor for the en-suite during the night! Oops. After brekkie a trip down the ranch bar where there was some nice scoots, nice folks, nice weather and more importantly – drink. Quality banter included BJ’s ‘cannae get nowt saerer than a spot in your nose’ and Sumo nicking a wee kids burger from him at a pound a bite! Louttit’s heed looked a wee bit raw pink in the sun but even that widnae force him to don Daisy’s fetching hat or the wig Sumo and BJ ended up with. See pics for details – wink. Saturday night was off to Gingers at Maggies where Tony and Kitch kept the music coming. Nice to meet up with Pete who came down Saturday and dragged his brother Bobby along. Rally virgin – what did he let his self in for eh! Elvis sampled the local attractions before announcing ‘ah cannae be bothered shaggin her anyway’ while Sumo and Ward kept club relations going well with a wee scuffle with some civilians. Apart from that a pretty low-key night but most were shattered by then I reckon. (No sleep at all will do that to ye!)Sunday was parts fair day and I went with intentions of getting a few things but couldn’t find anyone with the stuff I needed. Boo. The rest of the club went home leaving me and Jeannie. Ah well, might as well hit the bar again. Kenny and Anne arrived and along with Ian and Kate from mutantscoots a  pub crawl commenced taking in the usual hostelries on the way through the day. A pretty well sozzled foursome then arrived at the do for the main event of King Kurt. The band were awesome and really had the place jumping. It was pretty busy too unlike last years Sunday do with Bad Manners which had tumbleweed on dance floor! Top-Tip – dinnae go wrecking with Anne unless you like getting battered to death! After the do it was too much to resist not going to Gizmo’s for pizza – couldn’t resist any longer! Besides – its tradition. Monday ride home was the usual hungover affair but stayed mostly dry although the wind was lifting the front wheel on M6 and making the hills hard work. Scoots got there and back ok though apart from me having a leaky float bowl (worn) and snapped airfilter. Not bad considering. So a good time was had by all then. Those from the Club who were there by scooter deserve a mention for effort - listed below. The others who turned up by various means on various days also contributed to the overall event itself. Those who didnae go were both missed by us and missed out themselves. Can’t do them all though.

Until next time -
Regards
Dunf
