- PHDSC Rally
PEEEETAAAAGH-HEEEEED
So
here we go again with the only rally of the year that I have to turn
right instead of left at the end of my street for, – up in the siberian
tundra of North-East Scotland. I’d missed last year as this clashes with
Rally Scandinavia, but a change of venue and a cancelling of the ferry
route made it a bridge too far for Sweden this year, so PHD it was to
be. Scott had been nippin’ ma heed to go to a rally but he’s only nine
and I wisnae sure it would be great for him. A shitty weather forecast
(what’s new!) and a venue that’s fine for us but no’ so good for bairns,
but a promise from Mark to take Natalie for company and we were good to
go. Most of the club were heading up at various times on the Friday, I
was planning for Saturday due to working late, but come Friday n ight
a wee change of heart and me and the wee man packed up the lammy for the
journey North. The scoot was running well for its first time out with a
new top-end after it seized last time out at Animals. Mind you, ye still
get a wee panic on at every funny noise or rattle. Not Scott though,
he’s only went and fell asleep on the back! Bless ‘im. We made good time
then lost the lot by stopping in Stonehaven at the slowest chippy in
europe. I swear they were making chips to order! By the time we cleared
Aberdeen it was dark and when we arrived at the site it was ‘tent-up by
headlight’.
Straight into the do’ and met up with the other Blues and some familiar
faces from Turkeys, Lone Sharks (was like a Fife do!) Animals, PHD,
Aberdeen and others, plus met a couple, Colin and Chrissy from East
London (ELMS-SC) who had driven all the way up from the Smoke for the
rally. Cheers for the pint, got you a new pin badge and will get it to
you at mersea! The Friday night band were chucking out some good stuff
even if the lead singer looked about twelve!, and kept us going until
Scott was in danger ay falling asleep again in the do so off to kip –
until Judge fuckin Jules woke us back up! (sorry Niffy, I know it wisnae
you, you were just the first I recognised when having a rant!) Sat morn
– the wee man wakes up well early and drags us out of slumber for
brekkie. A wee dander down the beach, jumping on the jelly-fish and
flinging stones woke me up braw then back to the rally site in time to
see the ride-out start and Big Ian leave! A quick inspection of my lammy
revealed the ‘U’ bend was loose so in true lammy style I had to
dismantle half the scoot to get to it to tighten it back up – in the
pishin’ rain a s
well. Job done, it was time to start on the apple pop again for the
afternoon sesh. A few games of pool and endless pound coins (thanks to
Ward for supplying the coins!) for the machines kept the bairns
entertained while we spent our time kidding-on we know about fixing
scooters and shite like that with the locals. And consoling wee Bob for
selling his TS1 to Niffy. If you keep telling yourself you got a good
price you might even believe it one day! As is normal with these things,
day turned into night in a wee bit of a haze and before you knew it the
Saturday night band were tuning up.
Saturday night was spent topping up on the alcohol levels, freaky
dancin’ and having the banter with the ‘fit-like’ lasses who’d been
smashin company all weekend, Connie, Debs n Anne. Skolar was looking
better after his ‘wee’ accident at Wigtown! Scott was well chuffed when
he won the raffle, oh aye, smashin son. Cost me a fiver for a wee box ay
celebrations and that’s winning?! Haha. Anyway, a wee session working as
a bouncer again with ma partner in crime Pete (Blues bouncers for
hire!), and mare drink followed. Shoulda seen wee Scotts face when he
went to the bar wi a pound for juice and got told the lounge price was
£1.25. shame – cruel but funny! The night ended for us soon after due to
me being shattered and off to kip again. Sunday morning greeted us with
heavy rain and gusty winds – just what we needed eh? A long breakfast in
the hope it would go off proved pointless so we packed up in the rain
and saddled up for the run back. Big thanks to Wardie for taking the
kids in the car, they would’ve been soaked. Only 20 miles gone and
already we all got split up. Mind you, the weather was making it
difficult. Wind blowing you across the road and rain steaming up visors.
My solution as always was to drive flat-out! Lost Willie and Terry then
Mark and Paul until
it was just me and Pete left. Cracked along steady though and the lammy
was running a treat. Made Dundee in about 2 hours from the off. Not bad.
The car caught us up and we travelled in tandem back to Fife for home
for me and a pitstop for Pete, Tam and Ward. Still not sure how the rest
got on but hope you all got back ok. Special mention to Terry – he’s
out-qualified a lot of the members now and showed them how it’s done.
Excellent effort pal, nice one. Really glad to see you there and hope
you get better weather next time!! Arrived back wet, cold tired but
happy. Scoot running braw and home in good time. Rally was smashing and
proves it is what you make it. Thank to Peterhead Scooter Club for the
hospitality and the craic. I’m sitting writing this the night before we
set off for mersea so another review will be along soon….‘Til then,
Cheers!
