Whitby 2008

Hardly had time to catch breath after Kelso and been working non-stop to get my P2 ready for Whitby but it wasn’t to be. Bugger. This was the first rally nominated as a club rally at the AGM so I was looking forward to the big turn-out. Me and the wee wifey left on Thursday though for a stop in the borders overnight and an early arrival in Whitby on Friday. Plan was to get there in time to actually see the place properly because it’s so nice eh. Everything actually went to plan on the journey and the scoots were great but all the early arrival meant was early in the pub, and the Sam Smith’s beer had us gibbering wrecks in no time. Slavered a pile of shite to the company – Sam, Martyn, Kitch n Anne, Uncle Tubbs and Hammer, then sloped off t’bed. Early night then eh! Bollocks.

Saturday morning we woke up to half-eaten pizza and rain on the windows. Least it wasn’t a tent though, we’d booked flats ages ago and would go there again. Very lush indeedy. The private swimming pool couldn’t tempt us though so we headed off to the custom show after brekkie. Couple of bits and pieces for me and some clutch plates for Kitch were required then a wee blether with Alex and Karen before checking out the custom show. Got to say there were some awesome scoots with a fair bit of flair and imagination being put into most. Some real nice individual touches, like the hands on ‘The Mummy’ spreading across the legshields and grabbing the indicators – class. Just before we left we saw a lad struggling to push a custom up the makeshift ramp up the six steps to the lobby. Not surprisingly the board slipped and he very nearly ended up with a ‘Lord of the Dings’ instead of ‘Lord of the Rings’ scoot. Now then, time to head off for some messy mechanics as usual. Ten minutes in and obvious Kitch’s clutch was cattled with the centre boss sheared (and later found out crank end was too!). Ah well, booked AA for morning and headed of to the NESA do for a few afternoon sherberts. Caught up with Sparky, Hatty, Tony, Caz, Tubbs and the newly named ‘Gizmo’!! Caught a disturbing video on ma phone of Kitch being belly beaten by Tubbs n Tony, ooh-ya!, and this was early doors? God it was going to get messy again eh. Quick head back for a change and out for a nice sit-down a la carte meal. You know the type – real nice food on real nice plates with not much quantity and plenty numbers in the bill. Was good going down though, but maybe ah should’ve passed on the white wine? That’s ma excuse anyway because from this point onwards the memory is sparse to say the least. All I know is that the rest of the night involved the main do, much cider, one-legged dancing and an electronic button for the disabled bogs! It’s a blur. Don’t remember getting back to digs (although Dude says I was the only person he seen falling UP the stairs from the do). No matter.

Sunday was for home-time and after a café start we headed off up the A19, A696, A68 road home. Bumped into Pete at first fuel stop then were on us own after that. Scoots were flying and we made good time so we stopped at the Borders services for a wee break. £1.44 a litre for unleaded! First time I’ve ever seen a tenner in a standard lammy. Bar that the journey was fine. Six days to go then until Hamilton………

 Until then.
