This
years rally fixtures scheduled a couple of rallies prior to Kelso,
but unless you were one of the few hardy souls that travelled to
Llandudno a few weeks back then this would be the first rally of the
year for most of the club. Pretty unusual but it meant there was a
good appetite to get going again this year at last.
Friday
afternoon was a pretty uneventful journey down for me personally
(not that I’m complaining!), but the staggered starts meant most of
the club would be arriving in one’s and two’s this year. Bit of
confusion straight away as when we turned up there was no-one at the
usual spot that we could see. Bumped into Gaz and Helen who had just
arrived and were also looking for the club so we did a recce round
and stopped to blether to Kitch and JC in the other field. Couple of
beers later and half the club had put tents up around us! Therefore
sorry for the split camp and kinda my fault but it definitely wasn’t
intended so I hope nobody feels it was. More arrivals then
included Mark, Fi and the kids, Smurf and Fi, Davie and Lynn, Dude,
Willie Tam and Paul etc. Martyn arrived minus exhaust baffles and JC
arrived minus end can altogether (you would’ve heard them). Hailey
from the Ghosts who tried to combine grass-tracking and
tarmac-surfing into one event and ended up with a dented lammy and a
cracking candidate for a skin graft on his left leg (see pics) ouch!
That’ll hurt in the morning son. News also comes through that wee
Scotty from Dunfermline seized (on the Forth bridge of all places)
for the umpteenth time this year. Get a new engine mate! Off
to town for a carry out and nearly fainted at the “£1 per tin”
Strongbow offer in the local offy. After muttering about Tesco deals
and being told to “go there then” I decided to persuade the lass to
part with two cases for £30 cash – no receipt wink wink. She says
aye and promptly gets £30 of gift vouchers stuck in her mit and a’m
out the door quickstyle! Nice one. Friday night was then spent
trying to drink the evidence and not a bad attempt was made. Can’t
say I remember much about the do or anything else for that matter
but what’s new there?
Saturday saw Jacko, Marieke, Telf, Rab et all arriving along with
Kenny and Anne who had visitors in the shape of Wichsi and Barbara
from Switzerland who were on a wee holiday. Hope you enjoyed
yourself guys. Next stop was in town for a few at the boozer before
I had to get back for a shift with the yellow vest on. Jeannie
ducked out so I got her shift which resulted in Niffy getting the
(empty) Soul Room. Haha sorry mate – no luck. My lonely shift was
altered too when Diki and his lad Ben ended up staying at the door
for so long, Diki got a yellow vest flung on and earned his entry
fee back. Mind you, he only refused entry to the band, and when they
said who they were he insidted they play a ditty on the spot to get
in! Hilarious. Three hours of checking wristbands later and it was
time to move into the hall as a punter again and enjoy the last of
Neville Staples set. After the bands the crowds moved outside for a
cool down and a blether and I met a guy who said it was his first
rally and everyone had been so friendly. Then he said he was from
Peterheed which got an instant “FASH!” from me eh. After the initial
silence he seemed ok? heh-ho. Next up the scooter raffle which a
gadge from Dundeh won and he would’ve needed surgery to get the
smile of his coupon. Nice. More bevy which was cut rudely short when
some arse stole the last of my carry-out (hope your next shite’s a
hedgehog) and we heard some guy had had a scoot stolen as well
although it turns out the offender was caught and has been named on
a few websites since. Hope damage was not too bad (to the scoot –
not the thieving wee tyke) when the van used in the theft was
rolled.
Sunday morning wasn’t sunny enough to tempt me for another night so
we packed up for the off. Greeg awoke to a nice surprise of a
birthday cake Lee-Ann had arranged and Fiona awoke to a nice
surprise of Smurf being MIA. Oops. The other leavers got it together
to head off and we said our goodbyes to Neil and little Sara, Sam
and Martyn and Kitch n JC before another (thankfully) uneventful
ride up the road for us.
Nice.
