Hamilton Ghosts 2008
UP THE JUNCTION
III

We always try to make
an effort for the Ghosts events to return the favour for the
excellent support that Hailey, Inny and the rest of the crew give us
year in, year out. This, despite the fact that Hailey has an uncanny
knack for picking the wettest weekend of the year for his rallies!
Ah well, it is what it is eh.
Friday night was a
fairly low-key event by all accounts. Mark went through early as one
of the scheduled DJ’s and was accompanied by a gaggle of scoots
including Kenny, Anne, Jacko and Marieke, Smurf, Squire n Mary and
wee Rab. Looks like they got the best of the weather because by the
time I arrived on Saturday, the rain was just starting and it didnae
really stop again until I got home the next day. Anyway, at least I
got there ok. Jeannie didn’t even make it out of the driveway with a
split reed-block rubber causing the problem. That left me and the
bairn to weigh down my super reliable lammy for the run. 20 miles to
go then and the super reliable lammy starts making some right weird
noises. What can you do but ignore it and batter on. Still seemed to
run fine. After parting with ten English pounds at the gate we
collected our rally bag including bin-liner, wristband and
flip-flops!? Handy. Then quickly fired up the tent next to Keenan
Manor and were off for a drink or two at the bar, just in time to
catch Jacko’s murderous version of a karaoke classic. That said, at
least he volunteered. Gaun yerself mate. Caught up with Aleena from
the Gorehounds who I’m pleased to say had her ET4 finally built and
all present and correct at the rally, courtesy of Hailey who turned
it around in record time. Nice one. Helps me out as well. The
weather kept most folk indoors so it was make your own entertainment
time. Have to say it seemed to be no problem at all as quite a few
were dancing aboot mad early doors. Not picking on anybody but, Fi,
you were hoolit hen! And so were you Amanda! Magic. Alex and Squire
(once he actually got out his kip) helped with a really good couple
of sets and in-between times Mark n Sumo gave us a we rendition on
the horny trumpet. (By the way, the bairn still has a lump where you
dropped it on his heid ya bawbag!) Wee break in the music
proceedings for the raffle, which wee Scott has been waiting on for
hours so he’s sitting there clutching his tickets like prize jewels!
Shoulda seen his face then when Alex calls out his numbers.
Priceless. Made his day. Made mine an aw cause I got the t-shirt.
Back to the serious business of partying then and jeez didn’t we do
well. Maybe too well, Pete gets a panic going with a health scare
while Sumo n Greeg bolstered inter-club relations in their own
inimitable way. Wee Rab was unstoppable on the dance floor while Fi
tried to convince me jaigermeister shots actually were good for
you?! Crazy scene. All this while watching the wee yins and trying
to supplement a non-stop supply of 50p bits for the pool table.
The night wound-down
around 0100, and you had two choices – stay up in the campsite or go
to bed! I chose the latter for me and the bairn and despite the
wind, rain and diesel generators next door, we had a no bad kip.
That being the case the two of us were up early and after half an
hour trying to dry his clothes under the hand-dryer due to a tent
leak, we fired up the lammy and headed off while most were still
snoring. No surprise the run back was a rather wet affair but its
not exactly far so no bother. Cheers to the Ghosts for the run. I
reckon it was once again well enjoyable and as always a good wee
sesh. Thanks.
