Valentine's Ball 2009
This year sees the 30th
Anniversary of the Edinburgh Blues Scooter Club. As
such we have a whole series of events planned to
celebrate this, the first of which was this
Valentine’s Day Ball organised by the Fife Blues
S.C. The venue we chose was CJ’s Pool Hall in Rosyth
just next to the Forth Road Bridge and it had a 2 am
licence!! We sorted out the free packets of love
hearts for everyone who attended – come on it was
Valentine’s Day and everyone knows we’re old
romantics at heart.
The doors opened at 7.30 pm and
although the do was never exactly packed it soon
filled up so that there was a reasonable atmosphere.
Some of the club had travelled up from England to
attend (big cheers to Sam, Martin, Davie & Sarah
(who just got engaged that day), Debz, and Gordy).
The D.J.’s built the night playing an excellent set
which included modern stuff plus the usual soul, ska,
mod and sixties as well as some old punk and
psychobilly tracks that I haven’t heard for a long
time. They even managed to get Hailey from the
Ghosts to come out of his shell, get over his
shyness and join us on the dance floor! Whilst most
of us were busy getting drunk and enjoying ourselves
some of the girls from the club w ere
busy doing the rounds selling raffle tickets. Just
after 10pm we halted the music for a little while to
draw the aforementioned raffle. Many thanks to all
our sponsors who donated prizes. We also took the
opportunity to hand out the trophy to the Best
Turned Out Club which was the Wild Turkeys S.C. With
the formalities taken care of it was back on with
the music and see just how drunk we could get before
things finally came to a close at 2 am.
Obviously
there are a lot of people we have to thank for the
success of the night. All of the D.J.’s – Alex, Dood,
Jimbo, Squire and Mark – Karen and Fi for helping
sell the raffle tickets, and Marieke for doing the
door and Squire for the Flyer. Thanks also to
everyone who came along and supported the do – all
the Blues, Berwick Bulldogs, Coyotes, Dunfermline,
Ghosts, Lone Sharks, Peterhead, Wild Turkeys and
anyone else who we’ve forgotten. And last but not
least to Dunfy for his efforts on putting this
together, IE
advert in scootering, the date bargaining, the
venue, the late licence, the doormen, the trophy,
and even the love hearts and sherbet!
